KUTV and the Utah Diabetes Prevention and Control Program would like to introduce our co-developed Managing Diabetes section. Each month we will feature new topics to help Utahns gain awareness of this disease as well as offer multiple resources for education.
Managing Diabetes
How is family health history related to diabetes?
Health problems that run in your family can increase your chance of developing the problem. This is because family members share their genetics, environment, lifestyles, and habits. But the good news is, by knowing your family health history you can make screening and healthy lifestyle choices to lower your risk.
Eat Fruits and Veggies to Lose Weight and Lower Your Risk for Type 2 Diabetes
If you have a family history of diabetes, or you’ve been told by a health care professional that you’re at risk for type 2 diabetes, you can prevent or delay the onset of the disease by losing 5 to 7 percent of your body weight (10 to 14 pounds if you weigh 200 pounds).
Future Topics
We'll focus on topics related to Exercise and Diabetes in September. But you can subscribe now to our diabetes RSS feed to stay up to date.
