The month of pre-Sugar Bowl coverage you had to suffer through ended up being worth it in the end.  Personally, the columns and articles filling my “Google Alert” e-mail inbox were about to send me over the edge.  If I had to read one more piece from an Alabama writer “comparing” the two head coaches…

You know the “Nick Saban is a slick, high-profile genius with an entourage who barely has time for you while Kyle Whittingham is an avuncular, aw shucks, just happy to be here, kind of guy.”  Saban has an entourage because he’s quite full of himself, not because he needs one.  I could detail specific examples from his days with the Dolphins, but I’m not going to waste blog space on it.

If it wasn’t the coaching comparison column they were writing, then it was definitely the “Look at these Ute players enjoy the media attention!  The state of Utah doesn’t have electricity yet so these guys aren’t used to all of these television cameras covering them from the metropolitan media outlets of Alabama and Louisiana!”

As for this particular media person, yes, I thought Alabama was going to win the game.  No, it wasn’t based on SEC bias and yes, it only proves my point that college football needs an eight team playoff.  I don’t think the Utes are better than Florida or USC but they deserve the opportunity to prove me wrong.

Utah managed to run the table with great defense and an offense that suffered through play calling that only occasionally allowed the players to show how explosive they could be.

As I made clear this past summer, it was the Utes and not the Cougars that had the personnel to make the BCS run.  It was the Cougars and not the Utes that were afforded the preseason positioning that could have allowed them a shot at playing for the national title if they could overcome glaring issues and run the table.

Do the Utes deserve a shot at the national title?
