DVD Review: The Tom and Jerry Kids Show
Rated: Not Rated
Genre: Animated, Family
Street Date: April 30, 2013
Available On: DVD
Synopsis: In 1990 Hana-Barbera Productions re-launched the Tom and Jerry brand with this series. The show follows Tom and Jerry as children and each of the 13 episodes feature two Tom and Jerry stories and a short featuring Droopy & Dripple or Spike & Tyke.
Recommendation: Unlike other series like Muppet Babies where the concept of showing the characters as children completely changed the sort of stories that could be told The Tom and Jerry Kids Show isn’t a far cry from the classic cartoons that were originally produced in the ’40s on through the early ’80s. The style of the animation as well as the look of Tom and Jerry has been updated, but the stories themselves are pretty much the same shenanigans that you’d expect. This collection lacks the nostalgia that I feel for the television series that ran in the late ’70s and early ’80s, but I still found it to be an enjoyable way to pass an afternoon.
