Synopsis: Dragons: Riders of Berk is an animated series for the Cartoon Network that picks up where How to Train Your Dragon ended as Hiccup and his friend try to change the way that their fellow Vikings.

Recommendation: I wasn’t expecting much from Riders of Berk. I loved How to Train Your Dragon, but didn’t think the television series could match the charm of the film. I was wrong. Not in the sense that Riders of Berk outshines, or even matches the quality of the film, but it captures enough of the film’s appeal as we watch Hiccup and his friends try to convince their elders to push aside their fear and prejudice towards dragons. It’s a fairly traditional coming-of-age story with stubborn Vikings and a few scaled beasts.
Riders of Berk is more than a placeholder or cash grab as it bridges the gap between How to Train Your Dragon and its announced feature-length sequels in an engaging and entertaining way. Unlike many direct-to-video or TV series spinoffs Riders of Berk also retains the majority of the voice talent that was used in the film. If you loved How to Train Your Dragon you’ll enjoy this series.
For its DVD release DreamWorks has split Riders of Berk into two parts. Part 1 contains the first 11 episodes. Part 2 12-20. The series continues this fall on Cartoon Network as Defenders of Berk.
