Movie Review: Blue Jasmine
4 out of 5 Stars
Director: Woody Allen
Starring: Cate Blanchett, Alec Baldwin, Peter Sarsgaard
Recommended To: Anyone remotely interested in watching Cate Blanchett give one of the finest performance of 2013.
Synopsis: Upper-class socialite Jasmine (Cate Blanchett) is forced to move in with her blue-collar sister Ginger (Sally Hawkins) when her husband is sent to jail for fraud.
Review: Love him or hate him every few years Woody Allen makes a film that is so undeniably good that even his loudest critics are forced into silence. Blue Jasmine is one of those films. The story is a bit darker than what you might expect from Allen, but it’s also one of his smartest. Blanchett is phenomenal as she makes an entirely unlikable character impossible to look away from. Hawkins, who hopefully won’t go unnoticed, is Blanchett’s perfect foil and the supporting cast is so strong that you almost wish they were given more to do. Blue Jasmine isn’t as pleasant as Midnight in Paris, but it is equally as good.
