Review: I'm not familiar with director David Lowery's previous films, but I have a suspicion that he grew up watching Terrence Malick's Badlands over and over and the result is Ain't Them Bodies Saints, a film that echoes Malick's poetic musings. Lowery isn't stealing shots, but hes taken the rhythm and chords and spun them into a movie that feels as familiar without being redundant because Lowery has enough talent to pull off the Malick homage. He is, of course, aided by an extremely talented trio of actors in Casey Affleck, Rooney Mara and Ben Foster, who all offer up perfectly tuned performances.
Ain't Them Bodies Saints is a beautifully moody film. It's understated, somewhat ethereal and recommended.
