New DVD and Blu-ray Releases for March 10, 2014
(KUTV) It's another busy week of new releases including the Coen brother's Oscar nominated, but still grossly overlooked, film Inside Llewyn Davis. The film stars Oscar Isaac as a folk singer in the Greenwich Village and features Carey Mulligan, John Goodman and Justin Timberlake in supporting roles. This week also sees the adaptation of Markus Zusak's wonderful novel The Book Thief featuring a breakout performance by Sophie Nelisse as a young German girl living in the shadow of the atrocities of World War II, Out of the Furnace, the new drama from Scott Cooper (Crazy Hart) starring Christian Bale as a brother forced to revenge his brother's death when law enforcement is slow to intervene and Homefront, a thriller starring Jason Statham as a retired DEA agent forced to defend his family from a small-town drug lord.
Family releases this week include the reimaging of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol as an Easter tale in Winnie the Pooh: Springtime with Roo, Barbie: The Pearl Princess starring the plastic ingénue as Lumina, a mermaid that dreams of being a princess, Monsters Vs Aliens: Supersonic Joyride, the latest volume from the TV series inspired by the movie and Lego Star Wars: The Yoda Chronicles featuring the Cartoon Network specials "The Phantom Clone" and "Menace of the Sith."
Cecil B. DeMille's Sampson & Delilah starring Hedy Lamarr and Victor Mature makes its way to Blu-ray this week, alongside the Criterion Collection's Blu-ray release of David Gordon Green's excellent feature debut George Washington, the brilliant Nazi sci-fi satire Iron Sky: Director's Cut, Mademoiselle C, a documentary about fashion editor Carine Roitfeld, the South Korean spy thriller Commitment starring K-pop star Choi Seunghyun and the first season of Rogue, a police drama starring Thandie Newton (Mission: Impossible II) and Marton Csokas (Lord Celeborn from The Lord of the Rings trilogy).
