Nurse Dani: Fetal Movement
Fetal Movement - when can a mom expect to feel the first movements?
Most mothers feel those first flutters sometime between 17-20 weeks, but some a little later, others a little earlier.
When does movement become regular?
By 28 weeks, or the beginning of the third trimester, a baby is big enough for you to feel regular movement. Until then, it will feel irregular to you, although if you pause and think about it, in the weeks leading up to 28 weeks, you should feel occasional movements.
What should I do if I don't feel my baby moving as much as usual?
Once you're past that 26-28 week mark, if you ever notice a decrease from your baby's norm, stop what you're doing, get rid of all distractions, lay down on your side, and count movement. If you get 10 or less in 2 hours, and all movement counts, get checked out.
Many mothers write off hours of no movement as "My baby must be sleeping", but babies only sleep for 20-30 minutes at a time in the womb.
We are huge believers in a mother's intuition, so if you're worried, we'd love to make sure everything is okay.
