National Preparedness Month
Tim Hemingway with Daily Bread shares his top tips for National Preparedness Month.

The basic steps to being prepared are:
1. Be informed – Understand what types of unexpected events could affect your family.  In Utah we see severe winter storms, flooding, wildfires, strong wind, we could have an earthquake.
2. Make a plan – Spend an evening putting together a plan with your family talking about how you should react in these situations.  Setup a meeting point outside the home in case your home is damaged.
3. Build a kit – kits should include 1-gallon of water per person for 3 days, 2-week food supply per person, first aid kit, emergency radio, flashlight, change of clothes, etc.
Daily Bread has created a 2013 Preparedness Guide that covers a wide variety of preparedness topics, and is a great resource for those who are just getting started or is a great reminder for those who already have food and emergency supplies.  This 13-page guide is FREE and can be downloaded at, just click on the home page slide.
