Baked French Toast
Recipe Courtesy of Harmon's

1 loaf Harmons Challah Bread
8 large eggs
1 cup heavy cream
2 cups whole milk
2 tablespoons baker’s sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 pinch Guatemalan cardamom
2 pinches ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp. freshly planed nutmeg
1 pinch of salt

Nut Topping Ingredients:
2 sticks of unsalted butter
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup chopped pecans
Cinnamon and nutmeg to taste

1. In a bowl whisk eggs, cream, milk, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg and salt until it makes a smooth custard without too many bubbles. If over bubbly let the mixture stand for ten minutes.
2. Cut Challah into 3/4 inch slices or enough to cover a buttered 9 x 13 baking dish overlapping the slices.
3. Pour the custard base over the sliced bread evenly. It is important to cover as much of the bread as possible.
4. Put in the refrigerator overnight.
5. In the morning cover with nut topping and bake at 365F until topping has caramelized and the pudding has puffed up.
