Good Question: Why Do Cats Hate Water?
(KUTV) Why do cats hate water?
2News made a visit to the Humane Society of Utah to discover why cats don't like water.
The Humane Society is putting the finishing touches on their brand new "Kitty City," which opens to the public on Saturday. And unlike the standard cat kennels you may be used to, "Kitty City" comes with massive play yards, condos and HDTV's. But, one thing you don't see is water.
Animal specialist Jessica Almeida says it's not so much that cats hate being wet, instinctively, they just hate giving off a strong smell like a wet dog gives after playing in water.
Because cats are predators, a strong smell could scare off their lunch of mice or birds.
Don't be too concerned about the adverse reaction to water, cats have an enzyme in their saliva that allows them to bathe and disinfect, water free.
