Lawmakers Consider Raising Smoking Age
(KUTV) Two Utah legislators want to raise the legal smoking age in Utah from 19 to 21.
Kraig Powell of Heber City and Stuart Reid of Ogden plan to propose a new law hiking up the age for smokers. Utah already has the highest legal smoking age in the country, along with three other states.
The lawmakers say new studies show that if people don't start smoking by 21, they aren't likely to ever smoke.
Utah is not the only state looking to raise the age. New York, Texas and New Jersey all have similar bills in the works.
