Web Exclusive: Bishop John Wester on Coming to Utah
Shauna Lake: Now looking back do you feel like it was maybe something bigger then you that brought you here? It seems like it’s been a very positive experience. You've connected with the community here in many ways. Do you feel like something much bigger brought you, Bishop Wester, to Utah?
Bishop Wester: Oh yes I do. God's loving providence is always at work in us and there are no coincidences or accidents. I really believe that. Now obviously I don't believe in fatalism and I don't mean that. But what I mean is that god is at work in our lives and everything that happens to us is for a reason and for a divine purpose. I forget how Shakespeare put it but there is a divinity that shapes our ends. I believe that is really true. There is a national geographic camera man I should say, he once said a lot of people say I’ll believe it when I see it, but he said I see it because I believe it. I believe strongly that god's at work in our lives and so I do see connections. I see there is a purpose. I see that god's working in all of this. And that I’m here for a reason and it's been a wonderful, wonderful experience. I could have never predicted this for myself. How would I have ever known? I mean this is all gods doing and so that's the other reason it's good to be open to do what you're told because now I can blame the pope if it doesn't go well. But if it’s all my doing I’m not going to blame myself. It's really been a great grace of my life to live here and I’m just very, very happy here.
