Web Exclusive: Hiding a Secret
Steven Holcomb talks with Shauna Lake about how he managed to hide his vision problems and the ground breaking procedure he found in California. Steven says the people around him knew he had bad vision, but they did not know how bad it was. He hid his deteriorating vision with anti-social behaviors. His friends would invite him to watch sporting events, but he would decline because he says, “I couldn’t see the game. I didn’t know what was going on.” After people began to notice something was wrong, Steven revealed to his coach that he had to quit due to his vision problems. His coach refused to accept that news and found a doctor in Beverly Hills, Dr. Brian Boxer Wachler, who had a new procedure to help those with Keratoconus. The procedure, that has since been renamed the Holcomb C3-R, helped restore Steven’s eyesight to 20/20.
