Web Exclusive: What Makes Gov. Herbert Angry
Governor Gary Herbert tells Shauna Lake what makes him angry and frustrates him.
Shauna Lake: “What makes you angry?”
Governor Herbert: Not a lot of things make me angry. I have frustration occasionally when our message is not being understood. That's a lack of my ability to communicate, something I need to work better on. I get frustrated when people don't recognize what a great state Utah is and I'm thinking what are you missing, we are a great state. Doesn't mean there aren't other great places in America and around the world. I'm a proud American. I think America is just by far superior to any place else in the world to live. The freedoms and liberties we enjoy given to us by a great inspired constitution by our founding fathers. But Utah is as the Wall Street Journal said the brightest star on the flag right now. I'm grateful for that. I recognize that, and when others don't, it's a little bit frustrating. I get frustrated when people don't work hard. My dad was a very hard working individual. Our family slogan for my father was work will win when whishy washy wishing won't.
Shauna Lake: Wait again, work will win...
Governor Herbert: You got it. Work will win, when whishy washing wishing won't. He got that from his dad. He was raised on a farm up in Idaho. My dad has been just a great example of work. And I think hard work covers a multitude of shortcomings. If you can work hard, you can probably accomplish anything. I see the ease in life of people who don't maybe reach their potential and the shortcoming of my own life. If I just worked a little harder, I could have had maybe a better outcome and so I hope we understand the importance of work by the sweat of our brow and get out there and become the best we can be. To not only improve ourselves but to improve the life of people around us in giving service. So I get a little frustrated when we are sometimes a little more selfish and we don't work as hard as we're capable of doing. But you know I don't really get very angry at anything, frustration probably better describes my personality.
