Web Exclusive: Rimando on Being a Goalie
Nick Rimando talks about being a goalie for Real Salt Lake
SHAUNA LAKE: Goalie is a key position. You get a lot of the praise and you also get a lot of the blame. Do you thrive on that pressure or does it stress you out?
NICK RIMANDO: I thrive on it. I’ve learned to play with a lot of pressure on my back. Like you said, it’s a position where the team relies on you, the fans rely on you, and definitely the coach has to rely on you, and I’ve taken that with stride. I’ve had my low points and my high points. I think the more games you play the more confidence you get and I think this is my fourteenth season here so I’ve had a couple of games underneath my belt. I like the role I have. I like going out there knowing my team can trust me.
SHAUNA LAKE: You like that responsibility on your shoulders?
NICK RIMANDO: I do. I like being one of the main guys on the field and the leader on the field and in the locker room and having the responsibility. Yeah it has to get by ten players before it gets by me but I want to make sure I’m doing everything I can not to let that ball in.
