Web Exclusive: The Art of Conducting
Thierry Fischer discusses the art of conducting the Utah Symphony.
Shauna Lake: Every night you have to go out there and feel fresh and perfect and alive and not have one negative thought in your mind.
Thierry Fischer: Not really that would be too nice. No, I think if you are a conductor I think you have to be the way you are. So sometimes your moody, sometimes your negative, sometimes you half want to do it because you had an upsetting meeting or a bad day and it's all part of creativity. Positivism and optimism is not just showing happiness all the time. It’s inciting the people who are in front of you to do the best you can.
