President Proposes Tax on Cigarettes
(KUTV) President Obama is calling for a $0.94 tax on every pack of cigarettes sold.
The White House is presenting the tax as a way to fund education and reduce smoking rates. It would raise roughly $78 billion over 10 years.
But experts say not everything about the tax is good. They say it will fund early childhood education on the backs of the poor, as a higher percent of smokers are middle or low income.
