Car plows into Provo condo, knocking down power line
(KUTV) Charges are pending for a Provo woman who police say suffered a seizure, causing a serious crash early Monday morning near Center Street and 900 East.

According to Provo Police spokesman Brian Taylor, the 50-year-old woman had a denied driver's license due to a medical issue and should not have been behind the wheel.

The woman's car crashed into some condos Monday around 6:20 a.m. "We heard a loud boom," said Brad Bacigalupi who lives in one of the units that was hit. "We thought it was an earthquake, an explosion. Went downstairs and there was a car in our living room."

Police say the woman had a seizure, hit a power pole, and then veered into incoming traffic. At about 30 South 900 East, the car crashed into the condos.

No one was hurt besides the driver who suffered minor injuries, according to police. "It could've been a lot worse, especially if people were up and moving around in the apartment itself," said Police Lt. Mat Siafanua.

Russell McDonald was sleeping upstairs when he heard the loud crash, "like when the dump truck picks up the garbage except it sounded like they threw it against my house," he said.

Police say the woman had minor injuries, her daughter Kelsey Cox tells 2News her mother suffers from a seizure disorder and was on her way to work when the crash happened. "She remembers turning onto ninth and then all she remembers is getting pulled out of the vehicle," said Cox.

Nobody else was hurt in the accident, but families in two units have to move out while crews clean up and make sure the building is safe.

As for the driver, "she seems to be doing ok," said Cox.

The condo complex homeowners association is managed by Advantage Management. Property manager Ryan Wimmer tells 2News the company did not have a damage estimate as of Monday afternoon.
