2012 Utes Signings
(KUTV) SALT LAKE CITY - The Utes signed 26 players Thursday, seven from California led by San Clemente signal-caller Travis Wilson and 10 from Utah, led by Lone Peak quarterback Chase Hansen.
"Chase Hansen and Travis Wilson we feel very good about," Whittingham said of his two prize recuits. "Which is a huge plus for them and us and they will absolutely get a bunch of reps this spring and find out what they are all about and show what they can do.
Whittingham also used 15 of the the 26 scholarships on offensive and defensive linemen.
"Had a big need for big people up front. We took a bit hit graduation-wise and our numbers were a little bit down anyways in the trenches. We got some big, big guys. Carlos Lozano is the biggest 6-7 and about, I think we list him at 385 that is being very conservative," Whittingham added.
The coach says the change to the Pac-12 conference has clearly giving the Utes up in recruiting.
"Without a doubt, moving into the Pac-12 has been an effect. Is it at its peak yet? I don't think so. Whittingham said.
"I think it is continuing to build. We were a member of the Pac-12 last year. Theoretically, even though we weren't in it. It was a very good class. In fact last year's class would have been the top rated class only to be surpassed by this year's class."
