Weber State Celebrates Half-Century Of College Basketball
(KUTV) Weber State celebrated 50 years of college basketball by inviting former coaches and players back to Ogden for the season finale.
Former Weber State coach Phil Johnson, later the NBA Coach of the Year and a longtime assistant with the Utah Jazz was among the honorees. Another former Weber State coach, Dick Motta, went on to win an NBA title at Washington.
Weber State beat Eastern Washington 65-57 to finish the Big Sky conference in second place with an 18-2 mark. Montana wins the Big Sky with a 19-1 record and will host the conference tournament in Missoula.
With the new expanded 11 team conference, seven team now qualify for the conference tournament.
Top-seeded Montana gets a bye to the semifinals. Second seeded Weber State will face Northern Arizona in Missoula at 3pm Thursday in the days first quarterfinal. Sixth seeded Southern Utah will play third seeded North Dakota in the second quarterfinal at 5:30 in Missoula. Montana State and Northern Colorado will play in the final quarterfinal.
